2009-2010 Team Impact Wrestling Practice Schedule
During a school holidays (Christmas Break, March Break, PD Days etc) you can expect the practices at the schools (Applewood, Ajax, and Port Perry) to be cancelled unless otherwise announced. Practices at the City Adult Learning Centre will not be affected by school holiday breaks, but will only be closed on statutory holidays or on days that we will be at tournaments. If there are closures in the community due to bad weather you can expect that practice will also be cancelled. Do not drive to practice under bad weather conditions.
Improvements will come sooner for participants who are respectful, cooperative and participate to the best of their abilities. A commitment to attend practices on a regular and punctual basis is an important element in the process for success. The will to work hard in practice is a vital part of that process. As is sacrifice, to succeed and move up we have to give up and the higher we climb the more we have to give up.
The will to win is not enough without the will to prepare.

Practice Philosophy and Requirements (October 21, 2006):
Practice Philosophy: The objective of our practices is to improve every participant’s wrestling skills and ability’s. To do this we focus on creating a serious, structured and intensive learning environment. Practices are designed to provide a challenging learning experience geared towards winning wrestling matches. The focus is on technical, tactical and strategically preparations. Being in excellent physical condition is the personal responsibility of each athlete. We do not lose matches because of poor fitness. It will be the athlete’s responsibility to follow the recommended individual training plan and be in excellent physical condition. Punctuality is important for developing team cohesion and an important future employability attribute. Being late is disrespectful and disruptive to team cohesion. Productivity is a direct result of a committed effort and professional approach to set goals
We do not plan to run practices on statutory holidays. If there are closures in the community due to bad weather you can expect that practice will also be cancelled. Please do not drive to practice under bad weather conditions.
Practice Requirements:
1. To fulfill our liability requirements we request that at all participants be Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association (OAWA) members. A copy of this form is available in our registration package.
2. Practices will start on time and “on time” means making an effort to arrive early in order to be prepared to start “on time”. This means if you are 10 minutes early you are late. If you are not able to attend a practice it is your responsibility to workout on your own. If you are late arriving please make a serious effort to speed-up the process of catching-up to the current pace.
3. Do not come to practice if you have any infectious or contagious disease.
4. Please be prepared with the proper equipment needed to be able to participate: The following items are required for practice: gym shorts or tights, no jogging pants, t-shirt or tight long sleeve, wrestling boots or running shoes, no baggy loose fitting exercising clothing is permitted, showering items (towel & soap) bottled drinking water, athletic tape (for injuries), running shoes and a skipping rope. We recommend that you wear a mouth guard. Practice gear must be clean and washed after every workout. Please put your wrestling shoes on and off by the mat
5. Medical conditions that might impinge on training must be discussed with the coach including coping strategies.
6. Be respectful to your coaches and fellow athletes. Coaches should be referred to as “Coach.” Foul or abusive language is not acceptable.
7. Be respectful, cooperative and participate to the best of your abilities. Helping others get better helps you to get better. Provide advice to correct teammate’s errors.
8. Take a shower (with soap) immediately after every workout.
9. For athletes new the sport, please observe a training session prior to participation. New inexperienced athletes will not be permitted to engage in full-out sparring session for a minimum of a two week period.
10. If at any time, during a practice you become ill or injured, inform one of the coaches at once.
Measures for Preventing Infections (Revised 10:21:06)
Do not come to practice if you assume you have any type of infectious disease – go see a doctor immediately. Return to practice only when cleared by a doctor with a medical note.
1. Cover all wounds (scratches, scraps or puncture to or skin). If a wound cannot be covered adequately athletes will not be permitted to participate.
2. Practice excellent personal hygiene. Shower immediately after training. Use plenty of soap and scrub with a washcloth. Let the soap stay on the body for a least a minute before rinsing. Do not share towels or soap bars. Use footwear in the shower.
3. After a shower change into clean clothes and launder your workout cloths. Do not use the same workout gear or towel twice.
4. Only athletes dressed in clean workout gear will be allowed to practice. Wash your kneepads, wrestling shoes, and headgear regularly.
5. Limit skin exposure by wearing spandex tights and tight long sleeved shirts during training.
6. Please keep the training areas clean. Volunteer to wash the mats with disinfectant. Mats should be cleaned on a regular basis.
7. Help keep the mat clean by put your wrestling shoes on and off by the mat or clean the soles of your wrestling shoes before each time you step on the mat.
8. Do not share any personal equipment that has not been cleaned or disinfected (i.e. head gear, knee pads etc.).
9. The wrestling room should be well ventilated, the temperature should be cool and the mats should be dry of sweat.
10. Do not share water bottles. Washing your hands regularly with soap throughout the day is the best way to prevent catching a flue or cold.
Please review the club rules and expectations
Blood Policy - Stop, Clean and Cover
Athletes are not to come into contact with blood other that their own.
Blood on the mat must be immediately cleaned by the person bleeding with a disinfectant solution provided. Workout clothing and gear contaminated with blood must not be worn until washed in the laundry. There will be no wrestling with bloody shirts, shorts, shoes knee pads etc.
Stop, clean and cover all cuts. To prevent serious infections cover skin that has been cut pierced or scratched.
Contagious Diseases Policy (Revised 06:10:21)
Any athlete deliberately practicing with any disease of a contagious kind will be fined $100. Twenty-five dollars of this fine can be awarded to anyone who reports someone attending practice with a contagious disease. It is everyone’s responsibility to help prevent the spread of contagious diseases. Not knowing what is or is not a contagious disease is not a valid reason for being excused from paying the fine. It is everyone’s responsibility to know or find out what is and is not infectious. To avoid being fined, athletes are encouraged to make inquiries to a coach or a doctor about all potential infections. Only athletes checked and cleared by a doctor will be allowed to practice without paying the $100 penalty. Before anyone can participate in a wrestling practice or competition they must have their skin checked by a coach.
To be a member in good standing with the Team Impact Wrestling Club it is everyone’s responsibility to comply with the following procedures:
I. Inform the coaching staff the moment that you have a contagious disease.
II. All unusual skin conditions or infections (i.e. rash, bad pimple, cold sore, ringworm etc.) must be diagnosed by a doctor or a dermatologist immediately. An itching, oozing feeling or a reddened area is usually a sign of an infection.
III. If you have a diagnosed contagious infection, be vigilant with the treatment prescribe by your doctor. If the infection disappears continue the treatment as prescribed.
IV. Return to practice when the condition has disappeared and you have a doctor’s medical note stating your condition is no longer contagious. This medical documentation is required in order to be allowed participate in competitions.
V. Check and examine your skin on a regular basis. Early detection and treatment can prevent further complications and ensure a speedy recovery.
Participation in Competition Guideline
Competition Philosophy: Proper prior preparation prevents poor performance. Wrestling bouts are won before the tournaments, in the practice room. Proper preparation is an integral part of an optimal performance. In our training preparations we plan for success. Practices are scheduled year round with appropriate breaks in the season for adequate recuperation and rejuvenation. We advocate participating in tournaments only upon optimal preparation. We practice to compete, and do not compete to practice. Regular attendance in Team Impact practices is a vital requirement for successful outcomes in competitions. We do not believe in competing more often than we train. Team Impact athletes planning on participating in a practice or competition with another club must inform a Team Impact coach prior to doing so.
Competition Criteria: Participation in competitions will be based upon the recommendation of the coaching staff in weeks prior to events. We strongly discourage late club registration solely for the purpose of competing in a major competition (i.e. Provincial Championships). All members should be active in club practices for at least one month before entering in a competition.
Please read the club rules and expectations for athletes.
Guideline Procedure for Competition Participation:
1. Participants must be paid members in good standing with the club
2. Indicate your intention to participate at least one full week before the event. For events that require hotel reservations indicate your intention ASAP, no later than one month before the event.
3. Registration to events will be finalized with a payment for the event and an official weigh-in and skin check conducted by a Team Impact coach, prior to the event. It will be the responsibility of the athlete to inquire about the payment and date of the weigh-in.
4. Athletes who fail to notify a coach and scratch (a no-show at the tournament) their entry will be charged the scratch fee. It is the obligation of the athlete to contact a coach upon canceling. The sooner the notice the better we are at saving the costs in tournament cancellation charges including hotel and van rental cancellation fees.
5. If you chose to travel on your own to a competition. When you arrive at the event please confirm your attendance with one of the coaches. Also at this time you should check to see that you are in the correct weight class and age group. Upon departing notify a coach.
6. On overnight trips there will be a curfew set. The times can vary depending on various factors such as travel arrival times, or what time the competition ends etc. The club policy is to be in your room, lights out and asleep by 10 pm. Please bring a portable alarm clock to wake you up.
7. Wrestlers should focus their attention during matches on taking directions from the corner coach.
